The recycling of appropriated media from the wellspring of visual culture can lead to unforeseen, provocative, and comic possibilities for artists. In this class participants will be shown how to cull materials from a variety of sources including video, DVD, television, and the Internet, and incorporate them into projects that reshape the popular media landscape with personal vision. This course will cover step-by-step fundamentals such as camera operation, multi-track editing using Final Cut Pro®, incorporating soundtracks, and DVD authoring using DVD Pro®. A series of hands-on exercises and technical demonstrations will prompt students to re-contextualize contemporary images and sound with their own ideas for final projects. The class will culminate with screening of student work in the SFAI Lecture Hall.
No Prerequisite. Basic computer skills helpful.
